About the role
As the Director of Government Affairs, you will report directly to the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer. You will develop and implement a comprehensive government affairs strategy that aligns with Kerry’s goals and priorities. We are seeking a strategic, experienced leader with a deep understanding of government relations. You will support our Chief Corporate Affairs Officer by advocating for the company’s interests and engaging policymakers and influencers to shape government measures and initiatives critical to our business.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with Kerry leadership and external sources to monitor pending legislation and determine potential impacts on Kerry.
- Serve as Kerry’s lead in government engagement around regulations, tariffs, and other relevant issues.
- Build and maintain relationships with government officials, legislators, and regulatory agencies to advance the organization’s interests and advocate for favorable policies.
- Represent the company before government agencies, testify at hearings, and participate in meetings as needed.
- Engage with federal and state governments on grants, ensuring Kerry has knowledge of and access to research and development grants in nutrition and health.
- Collaborate with industry associations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to build coalitions and alliances that amplify the organization’s advocacy efforts.
- Develop and implement statewide programs in states where Kerry has a strong manufacturing presence.
Preferred Location: Washington, DC area
Anticipated travel: 20% and as needed for role execution
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, government relations, or a related field is required. An advanced degree is highly preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, or a related role, with a strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory process in the food and beverage sector. Experience with global organizations is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant policy issues and a demonstrated ability to analyze and communicate complex policy matters.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with government officials, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
