About the role

Under direction of the VP – Technical & Regulatory, this position is responsible for conducting basic research for the development and improvement of products and processes, as well as assisting and supporting the QA department by completing all essential functions in a professional, efficient, and detail-oriented manner.

Key responsibilities

To perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed. The essential functions of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting research in the development and/or improvement of new and existing food ingredients and manufacturing and quality control processes.
  • Documents all research in hardcopy or electronic forms in adequate detail to allow collaboration by other stakeholders, as well as to file for intellectual property protection.
  • Development of procedures and specifications for the manufacture of new product introductions and process improvements.
  • Work in both pilot scale and production scale-up through commercialization.
  • Complete project requests supporting sales personnel within the timeframe allotted by the customer.
  • Communicate with subordinates, peers and management to ensure timely and complete resolution of problems.
  • Performs laboratory analyses on new product development and in support of the QA function, as needed.
  • Employs efficient time management practices.
  • Must be able to taste and smell chemicals, flavors and food products.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and skills

Key competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong mathematics and science skills.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
  • Able to occasionally lift weights up to 50-75 pounds.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as recipes, product specifications, or work instructions.
  • Possess and exhibit analytical, organizational, and problem-solving aptitudes
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and respond to constantly changing demands and priorities

Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or related discipline required.

Experience

  • 3-5 years food industry experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
