About the role

This role is a Scientist for Beverage Development & Applications and it sits with the RDA department. You will support in the development of innovative beverage applications, including dairy, refreshing beverages, juices, energy drinks, and alcoholic beverages, utilizing Taste and Applied Health and Nutrition Ingredients. This role also collaborates with various teams to evaluate product performance, manage sensory evaluations, and document results.

Key responsibilities

Product Application & Development

  • Support the development of new beverage applications to support customers and work on assigned projects with supervision.
  • Create new and innovative beverage products for beverage application; such as Dairy Beverages, Refreshing beverages, Juice based products, Energy Drinks, CSD or NCB with or without thermal process and preservation systems and Alcoholic beverages.
  • Support the development of products utilizing our Taste and Applied Health and Nutrition Ingredients and various technologies in application and assess its stability and suitability in meeting customer needs.

 

Product Portfolio and Collection

  • Understand the Taste portfolio relevant to the applications within the respective Beverage EUM.
  • Understand the collection library and able to propose collection to internal and external customers.
  • Provide input for the definition of Taste collection needs and gaps.

 

Cross Function Support

  • Work with various RDA technology and teams (RDA analytical and sensory) to evaluate product performance into beverage applications.
  • Link with other application groups to cross share knowledge.
  • Provide application support to sales team for collection promotions or tailored made products.
  • Work with Operation, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain etc. on product commercialization.
  • Close relation with commercial teams to help develop  key customer strategy and support the engagement.
  • Work together with cross functional team to develop integrated beverage solutions across all category.

 

Laboratory Maintenance

  • Follows Best Laboratory Practices and established procedures in relation to laboratory maintenance and stock control.

 

Sensory Evaluation

  • Manage sensory evaluation of beverage applications for internal evaluation.
  • Accountable to evaluate, with sales, the collection flavours for the country.
  • Conduct sensory evaluation for product development, product stability etc.
     

Documentation of Results

  • Ensures all outputs are recorded according to established protocols. 
  • Document all testing results and research notes in lab books and computer databases.

Qualifications and skills

  • Preferably a Bachelors Degree or Masters in Food Technology, Food Science, Chemistry or a related Applied Science.
  • Good to have more than 5 years of Beverage R&D product development working experience with a proven track record
  • Preferably have experience in managing both internal and external relationships – Commercial / Sales team, General Management, Customers.
  • Fluent in English and other Languages is also preferred.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to taste and smell flavors and food products, view beverage colours and degrees of turbidity, and formulate a product with flavour technology.
  • Strong understanding of low calorie sweeteners, modulations and nutritional beverage ingredients.
  • Strong understanding of different types of flavours and their applications, beverage emulsions, stabilities, thermal and commercialization processes.
  • Strong understanding of interaction of Taste products within the food matrix and processing impact.
  • Strong understanding of application and processing knowledge at customer level.
  • Must have in depth understanding of beverage flavour applications, beverage equipments and other industry standards for beverage products and their processes.
