What you'll do

  1. Scope:

This position is an integral part of the management team and will be responsible for ensuring that the machinery and ancillary equipment are operating at optimum levels, as well as maintaining the facility and grounds.  This position reports to the Maintenance Manager.  The Lead Mechanic will serve as the Maintenance Supervisor backup.

  1. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Lead and direct the maintenance staff, including coaching, training and supervision.
  • Trouble-shoot to determine the root cause of problems and implement the best and most cost-effective solutions in the area of building, equipment, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation utilizing practical problem solving (PPS).
  • Establish a preventive maintenance program for equipment, machinery, building and systems to minimize unexpected breakdowns and repairs. Working directly with the maintenance scheduler / planner.
  • Oversee the replenishment of tools, parts and supplies as required by the department to meet the needs of the facility.
  • Participate in annual budget process and establish expense and labor targets yearly.
  • Serve as a Safety champion responsible for the implementation and maintenance of corporate safety program polices.
  • Coordinate and schedule the work of outside contractors and ensure compliance with Kerry’s risk management requirements for Food Safety in accordance with NFPA audit procedures.
  • General support of plant production and quality assigned by plant leadership.
  • Attend all safety meetings, report any safety incidents/accidents and understand and follow all Company and Plant Safety policies and Procedures. Drive team for 100% completion of all safety and food safety training .
  • Trained in the Kerry HACCP program in order to identify critical steps and other instructions critical to effective implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety Plan.
  • May serve as a member of the HACCP team in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Support for the SQF 2000 System.
  • Working knowlege and use of a CMMS system. SAP experiance prefered.
     

What you'll need

  1. Requirements:

    Must have excellent organizational, technical, problem solving, interpersonal and leadership skills.  Ability to use Microsoft Windows (Office, Excel, Power Point) and computer based maintenance management programs.  Must be able to deal with multiple personalities and changing priorities.  Familiar with SOP’s and GMP’s requirements for Food Safety in accordance with NFPA audit procedure. Work knowledge of CMMS systems (SAP Preferred)

    Physical requirements:  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, climb ladders, bend, crawl, squat and manipulate hand tools.  Must be able to see to read instructions and trouble shoot problems.  Must be able to move throughout the plant/warehouse supervising and monitoring maintenance.  Must be able to manipulate a computer keyboard and telephone.  Must be able to speak clearly and intelligibly on the telephone and in person.  Must be able to read and assimilate information.

2.  Education and/or Experience:

Minimum requirements:  Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other equivalent background or a minimum of 7-10 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in the food or beverage industry.  Aseptic packaging experience a plus. 3-5 years supervisory capacity managing a maintenance, utilities ans waste treatement team. Preventive maintenance program implementation and management experience.
