Strategic Planning and Execution:
• Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to capture transportation requirements accurately.
• Ensure timely order entry and alignment with delivery schedules.
• Develop efficient shipment plans considering factors such as load capacity, delivery windows, and carrier availability.
• Optimize routes to minimize costs and maximize service levels.
• Design transportation programs (e.g., dedicated routes, intermodal solutions) to meet customer needs.
• Evaluate program effectiveness and adjust as necessary.
• Manage bid processes for transportation contracts.
• Negotiate rates and terms with carriers to achieve cost savings.
• Oversee day-to-day transportation activities.
• Track shipments in real-time using TMS and address any issues promptly.
• Coordinate with drivers and carriers to ensure timely pick-ups and deliveries.
• Implement real-time tracking systems to monitor shipment progress.
• Provide updates to stakeholders and address delays proactively.
• Ensure on-time deliveries and customer satisfaction.
• Handle exceptions (e.g., missed deliveries, damaged goods) effectively.
• Audit Freight Payment.
• Verify carrier invoices for accuracy.
• Analyze transportation costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Collaborate with finance to optimize budget allocation.
• Evaluate carrier performance and negotiate contracts.
• Assess the impact of transportation initiatives on overall business performance.
• Measure KPIs (e.g., OTIF, cost per mile) and report to management.
Technology Utilization:
• Utilize advanced transportation management systems (TMS), such as SAP and other proprietary software, to streamline processes, track shipments, and analyze data for informed decision-making.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive continuous improvement and innovation in transportation logistics.
Compliance and Risk Management:
• Ensure compliance with international transportation regulations, customs requirements, and safety standards.
• Mitigate transportation risks through proactive planning and effective communication with stakeholders.
Vendor and Partner Relations:
• Manage relationships with transportation providers, carriers, and third-party logistics (3PL) partners to negotiate contracts, resolve issues, and optimize service levels.
Qualifications and skills
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Proven experience of 8-10 years in transportation management, preferably in a global or multinational organization. Strong leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing and developing high-performing teams.
Proficiency in SAP and TMS systems; ability to leverage technology for process improvement and data analysis.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
In-depth knowledge of international transportation regulations and compliance requirements.
