About the Role

The importance of product safety cannot be understated, and sanitation plays a critical role in our ability to deliver safe, high-quality food and pharmaceutical products to our customers. The Sanitation Supervisor will maintain and further build robust and effective Sanitation programs at our Norwich, NY manufacturing plant. Are you the hero who has the experience, knowledge and determination to protect our products by taking on the following responsibilities?


Key Responsibilities

  • Act & operate with safety top of mind at all times in keeping with Kerry’s “Safety First, Quality Always” value; incorporate human safety and environmental sustainability into Sanitation activities.
  • In alignment with regulatory, Kerry, and customer requirements, directly plan, organize, implement, lead, and monitor all Sanitation Programs including:
    • Cleaning & Sanitation (C&S) of factory equipment (routine and non-routine), production areas (routine and unplanned events), drains, etc.
    • Maintain site Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) and ensure it is effective
    • Lead site Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP), including: routine & investigatory swabbing programs, KPI/metric results reporting, data trending, and taking action to correct unfavorable results and prevent recurrence
    • Pest control program for the facility in partnership with an external service provider
    • Serve as primary contact with C&S chemical supplier and housekeeping service provider
    • Glass & Brittle plastics inventory & inspection.
  • Directly manage a team of Sanitation Technicians (including scheduling, timekeeping, employee training, performance reviews, hiring, etc.). Perform or assist with C&S duties as needed.
  • Develop, write, and implement Sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs) & work instructions.
  • Maintain, review/approve, and organize on file all records related to Sanitation programs and documentation of Sanitation activities.
  • Independently collect, organize, analyze and trend data related to Sanitation activities; develop/adopt continuous improvement initiatives for Sanitation programs.
  • Partner cross-functionally with local plant teams (including QA, QC, Production, Process Technology, Maintenance, Engineering, etc.) and external teams (Global Sanitation, Food Safety, etc.) to investigate issues and develop solutions executed.
  • Perform root cause analysis to address negative trends or nonconformities; determine & implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Advise on C&S considerations and sanitary design principles for new product introductions, new equipment, management of change proposals, etc.
  • Monitor inventory levels & ordering for C&S chemicals to ensure adequate supply to support operations.
  • Collaborate with HSE on chemical usage, PPE, wastewater impacts related to Sanitation activities, etc.
  • Understand, adhere to, and champion GMP and Food Safety principles throughout the facility.
  • Participate in audits (including Kerry internal , regulatory, customer, certifications, etc.) for topics related to Sanitation programs
  • Additional duties/responsibilities as required.

What you'll need


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (e.g. microbiology, food science, industrial hygiene, chemistry, biology) from an accredited university
    • Equivalent experience consisting of HS diploma/GED plus 5+ years’ experience with direct responsibility for manufacturing Sanitation may be considered.
  • 3+ years of prior responsibility for Sanitation in a food and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing facility
  • 2+ years of people leadership (direct supervision of employees)
  • Sanitation/GMP/Food Safety certifications desirable

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of and past experience in:
    • Manufacturing environment hygiene, to include:
      • Wet and Dry cleaning practices
      • CIP/COP
      • Hygienic Zoning
      • Environmental monitoring for pathogens and sanitary indicators
      • Soil identification & chemical selection
      • C&S verification practices
      • Mechanisms for occurrence of contamination risks in a manufacturing environment
    • Food Safety Principles
    • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
    • Microbiology
    • Equipment design, facility mapping, interpretation of P&ID documents, etc.
