About the role

We are recruiting for a Safety Data Sheet Author to join the Regulatory team in Naas.

 

The SDS Author will be focusing on Chemical Safety and ensuring that products remain compliant with EU and Global chemical regulations. You will provide leadership to Kerry on regulatory requirements internally, to drive competitive advantage for Kerry and bring knowledge of future regulatory changes to the wider regional and global regulatory and scientific affairs team.

 

The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert in chemical legislation changes and provide updates of such changes to the relevant internal stakeholders, including highlighting the affected products involved, and the expected impact and actions needed to ensure compliance is maintained.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify EHS Hazards and assess risks associated with said hazards. (ex. chemicals of concern, understanding impacts of specific GHS classifications, etc.)
  • Knowledge of hazard classification of chemical substances, chemical safety, engineering controls, exposure limits, personal protective equipment etc.
  • Knowledge & understanding of global GHS hazcom regulations, global regulations that impact the manufacture and sale of chemicals and international transport regulations (DOT, IATA, IMDG).
  • Responsibility to ensure all substance data in SAP EH&S is correct and maintained.
  • Responsibility to ensure SDS generated by SAP EH&S are compliant with the EU CLP Regulation.
  • Coordinate change management processes (impact assessment, plan to re-calculate and re-release revised SDS, etc.) to ensure that classification and regulatory updates to products and raw materials are managed and communicated effectively both internally and externally.
  • Advise and support finished goods regulatory teams to generate complete and accurate SDS in a timely manner.

  • Supports the Horizon Scanning process & Issues Management. Inform and update RSA LT and internal stakeholders on outputs to feed into hard insight process.
  • Liaise with RDA and Quality Control to gather all relevant data required for PCN notification submissions
  • Work closely with projects team and ICT to automate notifications and generation of Unique formula identifiers where possible.
  • Support labelling team to ensure hazard information is correctly displayed on the product labels.
  • Expert level understanding of how to author a Safety Data Sheet from scratch for the EU.
  • Able to conduct manual chemical hazard assessments of new and existing products according to the UN GHS framework as well as other country or region specific GHS implementations e.g. CLPo   
  • Experience searching, reading and interpretation of the ECHA dissemination website and the information contained within the REACH registration dossiers. for Europe, HCS for North America etc.
  • In depth knowledge of rules based safety data sheet generation software particularly SAP EHS
  • Able to interpret lab reports and official studies from a toxicological and ecotoxicological standpoint to assign the correct hazard classification to a substance or mixture.

Qualifications and skills

  • Experience in Food/Beverage/Pharma industry, in regulatory, QA or Experience of National or International Trade Associations
  • Expert knowledge of EU chemical legislation and good knowledge of global GHS hazcom regulations, global regulations that impact the manufacture and sale of chemicals and international transport regulations (DOT, IATA, IMDG).
  • Hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, or related discipline
  • Able to work accurately and quickly in a fast-paced environment An eye for detail: accurate, organized
  • Ability to work on your own initiative
  • Self-motivated with good organizational skills
  • Strong knowledge of database system maintenance and management.
  • Strong IT skills with experience of standard software packages, Optiva and SAP EH&S.
