Analytical Scientist - Flavours

The focus of this role is flavour/volatile analysis by GC-MS; utilising a variety of extraction techniques in a wide variety of food matrices to support RD&A. Candidates should be highly motivated and have previous knowledge and experience of volatile analysis by GC and GC-MS. As the successful candidate you will be working as part of the Analytical department that also performs the analysis of samples using a range of modern analytical techniques to investigate their chemical and physical properties.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Supporting flavour development through analysis and interpretation.
  • Using a range of software, techniques and equipment to carry out research and analysis.
  • Accurately recording data in accordance to guidelines.
  • Liaising with customers, suppliers and research/scientific staff.
  • Writing and presenting reports, reviews and summaries.
  • Keeping up to date with scientific and technical developments.
  • Developing new analytical methods.
  • Validating methods and equipment.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of equipment.
  • Ensuring that health and safety issues are adhered to.

 

 

Skills/Education/Background:

 

  • A strong academic background is essential in a relevant degree subject, such as chemistry, applied/analytical chemistry or biochemistry.
  • 3+ years of experience with GC and GC-MS are required. Knowledge of other techniques such as Olfactory GC, would be highly beneficial.
  • Knowledge and experience of flavours and flavour analysis is highly desirable.
  • Ability to prioritise and schedule work to meet demands set by the department, company or external customer, often to short deadlines.
  • Ability to convey technical information to technical and non-technical people.
  • Good standard of numeracy and skills in data analysis, with a flexible and methodical approach to work.
