About the role

Key responsibilities

SUMMARY:  is responsible for general janitorial tasks that are part of the Sanitation Program. This is general cleaning of common areas such as lunch rooms, rest rooms, offices and trash pick up and removal. Keeps employee working areas in warehouse, production and outside perimeters of facility in clean and orderly condition according to General Manufacturing Practices by performing the following duties.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Perform cleaning task throughout the facility, including peripheral areas, office areas and common areas of the facility.
  • Will be trained in chemical usage:  caustics, sanitizers, and incidentals.  Perform routine checks on chemicals, including chemical control when cleaning of the facility.
  • Will be trained in performing and supporting process line cleaning procedures including washroom cleaning of processing parts.
  • Will be trained in master sanitation cleaning procedures:  responsible for sweeping, mopping, and using floor scrubber in the plant per the master sanitation schedule.
  • Will be trained in pest control:  Sanitors responsible for preventing pest problems, notifying management of existing problems.


  • Upkeep of the general orderliness of the plant.  To take it upon themselves to straighten rows, remove broken skids, clean up spills, etc.


  • Assist with recycling programs in place such as cardboard, plastic, etc.  This includes using the baler for cardboard.


  • Will participate in task/work load handoffs with the oncoming shift.


  • Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Foreperson.




This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.  Experience in sanitation or a proven ability to perform expectations.



Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.



Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.



Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to use common cleaning equipment and general knowledge of cleaning compounds.  Ability to operate cardboard baling equipment.
