About the role

General Description:
This role leads and supports various projects ranging in scope from plant process improvements to execution of capital projects. This position requires strong knowledge in project management, Lean manufacturing,  fundamental process  engineering,  and sanitary design for food manufacturing. This role will lead these projects from concept and initial fact finding through implementation and final handoff, while making people safety and food safety a top priority. As part of the North America Central Engineering core team, this key contributor will be a key technical contributor to project teams responsible for executing projects for the organization. 

Key responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead teams through application of continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing and six sigma to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.

Directly participate in the design, development and creation of scope for engineering projects or the engineering work of the department to achieve maximum efficiency.

 Identify operational improvements and initiates cost savings measures.

 Install or troubleshoot equipment.

 Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs.

Investigate or resolve operational problems, such as material use variances or bottlenecks.

 Prepare documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures.

 Create project estimates and timelines for initial project consideration.

 Identify and proposes equipment and/or processing options to meet objectives within projects.

 Lead the bid process, budgeting and submission process for capital and operational projects.

Communicate clearly, both written and verbally, with contractors, plant personnel, peers and management. 

Ensure all engineering work aligns with corporate engineering standards, including sanitary design, ergonomics, employee safety and food safety requirements.

Ensure all safety, quality, and regulatory standards, specifications and policies are met or exceeded.  Cultivate a positive and innovative work environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

While this role has no Direct Reports, incumbent will oversee the project resource base including internal and external engineering partners.

Must be comfortable working as part of an interdisciplinary team in a heavily matrixed environment.

Qualifications and skills



To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or similar engineering discipline from an accredited institution is required.
  •  3-5 years’ experience in Project Management with responsibility for capital projects and continuous improvement savings preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of advanced operational improvement methodologies in Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to food processing.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning and adaptability.
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
