Along the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan, our Manitowoc, WI location creates condensed, natural smoke and cooking method flavors, in the Smoke and Grill business for our customers and brands. What you'll do

The Controls Engineer is fundamental to our team. You will be the driver for the monitoring and maintenance of the control systems and working on future projects.  This will include Programming Logic Controllers (PLC) programming and design for our smoke facilities in both Manitowoc, WI and Rhinelander, WI.  You will be responsible for about 30% upkeep of existing systems / driving equipment reliability improvements and 70% projects work.


  • Design and develop software applications based on given requirements and specifications
  • Understand end user requirements for GUI/communication interface, networking and create specifications based on these requirements
  • Troubleshoot issues with existing company installed systems
  • Requirement Reviews – Participate in reviews and work with Manufacturing and/or Continuous Improvement Engineering to ensure proper implementation of features
  • Research supplier products for assembly components
  • Power up electrical systems and configure hardware per application specifications
Qualifications and skills

  • Due to the nature of this role, a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field is required.
  • Minimum 3 years PLC programming and troubleshooting control systems, as a Controls Engineer, in the food, beverage or pharmaceutical industry.  This includes Programming Logic Controllers (PLC) (e.g. Allen-Bradley / Rockwell) & Configuring and designing HMI/OIT systems (e.g. Allen Bradley / Rockwell)
  • Process control experience (pumps, valves etc)
  • Understanding of OSHA and Lockout/Tagout requirements will help keep you and our team safe.
  • A background in Food Safety is beneficial to understanding and meeting the goals of this position.
  • Enjoy being on the go? In this role, you'll spend approximately 20% of your time traveling between sites.
