About the role
The HSE Manager plays a pivotal role in establishing Health, Safety & Environmental goals and is required to provide functional leadership and change management support to the team.
Key responsibilities
- Provide HSE technical advice and oversee HSE management at site
- Promote a positive HSE culture, raise HSE profile, competence and awareness by arranging relevant training and communicating the necessary information and statistics
- Support the site to identify hazards and conduct risk assessment and advise on appropriate risk management techniques
- Monitor progress against established KPIs and targets and support sites in meeting the goals and targets in sustainability and HSE
- Support sites to implement regional policies, programs and procedures and where necessary conduct training as part of the implementation
- Establish, implement and maintain a site HSE management system compliant to global, regional, customers and ISO14001 & ISO45001 Standards
- Advise site on HSE legislations and communicate applicable regulations that must be complied and support in compliance
- Develop and deliver HSE training, education and awareness campaigns in support of policies and/or initiatives
- Participate / lead in incident investigations and review investigation findings for accuracy, identification of root causes and appropriate corrective / preventive actions
- Report incidents to local authorities and internally to the Group in a timely manner
- Act as the contact person to communicate and liaise with authorities on all regulatory matters such as reporting, request for information, site visits, etc.
- Establish an updated emergency response plan (ERP) and arrange for training for members of IMT and ERT
- Plan and organize regular emergency exercises including joint exercises with external emergency services
- Communicate and share lessons from HSE incidents that impact all company operations in a timely, thorough, and effective manner
- Act as the Secretariat to the site HSE Committee
Qualifications and skills
- Minimum Degree in Engineering, Safety, Health & Environmental Science or relevant discipline
- Minimum 10 years’ relevant work experience, preferably with some experience in Food / Pharmaceutical, of which minimum 5 years should be in a HSE role
- Green Book [DOSH Certified/Registered SHO] > Applicable for Malaysia and/or preferable in possession of a NEBOSH, UK Certification
- Knowledge and Experience of Health and Safety and Environmental issues
- IOSH Managing Safety
- Proven ability to assess and improve existing systems and processes
- Strong project management abilities – must have a proven track record of managing multiple projects to successful completion
- Ability to manage change as directed by the company or legislation
- Experience with ISO14001/ISO45001
- Experienced in managing and coaching teams
- Management / liaison with both staff and the insurance companies regarding claims
