About the role

The Assistant Manager for Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) at Kerry Pasir Gudang plays a crucial role in ensuring the implementation and maintenance of high standards of Health, Safety, and Environmental practices across the site. This role involves providing strategic leadership in HSE management, fostering a culture of safety and compliance, and ensuring effective risk management and incident response.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide expert technical advice and guidance on HSE matters at site.
  • Implement regional and global HSE policies to ensure alignment with ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate site-specific HSE performance against established KPIs and sustainability targets.
  • Promote and cultivate a positive HSE culture throughout the organization.
  • Conduct regular training sessions and awareness campaigns to enhance HSE competence and awareness among staff.
  • Lead efforts in identifying hazards and conducting comprehensive risk assessments.
  • Advise on appropriate risk mitigation strategies and techniques.
  • Stay abreast of relevant HSE legislations and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure site compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory authorities on HSE matters, including incident reporting and compliance inquiries.
  • Lead or participate in incident investigations to identify root causes and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure timely reporting of incidents to local authorities and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop, maintain, and periodically review the site's emergency response plans (ERP).
  • Organize and conduct emergency response drills and exercises, coordinating with external emergency services as necessary.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive HSE training programs tailored to site-specific needs.
  • Educate employees on HSE policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Act as the person of contact for the site HSE Committee, facilitating meetings and ensuring effective communication of HSE initiatives and issues.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, management, and external parties (e.g., insurance companies, regulatory authorities) on HSE-related matters.

Qualifications and skills

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety, Health & Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in HSE roles, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial capacity, preferably within the Food or Pharmaceutical industries.
  • Green Book (DOSH Certified/Registered SHO) applicable for Malaysia, NEBOSH certification preferred. IOSH Managing Safety certification required.
  • Profound understanding of Health, Safety, and Environmental issues and best practices. Experience with ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards.
  • Strong project management abilities with a proven track record of managing multiple projects. Ability to assess and enhance existing systems and processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in managing and developing teams. Effective communicator and collaborator across all organizational levels.
  • Sound knowledge of HSE legislations and regulations, with the ability to ensure adherence and compliance within the organization.
  • Ability to manage change effectively in response to company directives or regulatory updates.
