About the role
The maintenance supervisor is responsible for overseeing and supervising the daily operations of both electrical and mechanical maintenance teams. This position ensures the smooth functioning, maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems within the facility. The supervisor will ensure that all maintenance tasks are completed on time, according to safety standards, and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
Supervision and Leadership:
- Lead, supervise, and manage a team of electrical and mechanical Artisans.
- Ensure proper allocation of tasks and responsibilities to technicians based on skills, workload, and priorities.
- Provide mentorship, training, and development opportunities for team members.
- Ensure the adherence to safety procedures and standards.
- Be willing to cover shift for shift artisans.
- Be prepared to work standby’s as per roster.
Maintenance Management:
- Oversee routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Coordinate the timely repair of electrical and mechanical systems and machinery to minimize downtime.
- Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment and systems.
- Ensure the correct functioning of electrical panels, generators, motors, HVAC systems, and other mechanical systems.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex electrical and mechanical failures and oversee repair work.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to the maintenance team to resolve issues quickly.
- Maintain an accurate log of maintenance work performed and issues encountered.

Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with local and industry safety standards, codes, and regulations.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and training for the maintenance team.
- Ensure that tools, equipment, and materials used for maintenance are safe and well-maintained.
Inventory and Procurement:
- Maintain an adequate stock of tools, parts, and supplies needed for electrical and mechanical maintenance.
- Assist with the procurement of parts and materials as needed, including sourcing, and liaising with suppliers.
- Maintain inventory records and assist with the budgeting process for maintenance-related expenses.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Provide regular reports on the performance and condition of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Submit reports related to operational downtime, maintenance costs, and any technical issues to upper management.
Project Management and Coordination:
- Assist in coordinating major upgrades, installations, or replacement of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Collaborate with other departments (such as production, engineering, and operations) to ensure the timely completion of projects.
- Manage the scheduling of planned shutdowns and maintenance activities to minimize impact on operations.
Qualifications and skills
Trade tested as a Millwright.
N3 Mechanical and Electrical engineering
Certification in relevant areas (e.g., electrical systems, mechanical maintenance, health, and safety) is a plus.
Proven experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of electrical systems, machinery, and equipment, including troubleshooting and repair.
Quality experience being a food industry.
Technical Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Familiarity with the operation of electrical and mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, HVAC systems, and control panels.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, NEC).
Leadership and Communication Skills:
- Strong leadership abilities with the capability to manage a diverse team.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members, vendors, and management.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
