About the role

Our Clark, NJ location is part of our Beverage division and creates flavor ingredients and beverages for Kerry customers and brands. Using state-of-the-art analytical and sensory capabilities, we're able to create and process different flavor blends, extractions, distillations, emulsions, and essential oils for your favorite foods and beverages! Clark is one of our largest sites producing 20 million pounds of product a year! Quality specialist performs testing and solution preparations, performs equipment & instrumental calibrations and maintenance, communicates between departments when reporting results and executes test protocols as assigned by management. The quality specialist is also responsible for assisting in writing protocols & reports, as well as testing raw material, finished goods, stability samples and additional samples as assigned.

What would you do?

  • Performs chemical testing on raw material, in-process and finished good samples.
  • HPLC, Gas Chromatography (GC) and Wet chemistry testing.
  • Performs impurity, supplier approval, and research testing.
  • Responsible for analyzing test data to determine acceptability of product
  • Performs laboratory equipment calibrations/performance checks.
  • Collaborates with Production to investigate and prevent out of spec product.
  • Troubleshoots and maintains laboratory instruments.
  • Assists in the performance of qualifications and validations of instruments and test methods.
  • Must be able to evaluate test data for the purpose of determining process control adherence and determine proper responses to “out-of-specification” product.
  • Revise laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assists in writing protocols and reports.
  • Executes test protocols, as assigned by management.
  • Leadership: Assist supervisor with scheduling and overseeing day to day tasks/projects.
  • Trains new analysts on laboratory skills and functions.
  • Perform other duties as required to fulfill department and business needs.

What will you need to be successful?

  • BS / MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline is preferred.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a flavor / pharmaceutical industry required. 
  • Some knowledge of juices/flavors/essential oils/emulsions and sensory analysis is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP's) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) a must!
  • Proficiency with GC/MS and HPLC is required.
  • Possess an understanding of cGMP/compliance requirements for pharmaceutical products ideal.
  • Expertise in root cause analysis, and monitoring CAPA effectiveness would be a desirable.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum guidance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
