About the role

SUMMARY

Responsible for plant and production equipment cleaning, chemical handling, pest control, buildings and grounds inspections and upkeep, raw material inspection, as well as training, compliance, and record keeping.

Ensure improvement, upkeep and following of the Master Sanitation Schedule; Develop, Validate, Implement and Verify SSOPs; Develop Metrics for Successful Sanitation Programs, Plans and Initiatives.

Key responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Review existing sanitation programs, plans & initiatives to recommend, develop, and implement new or/and improved programs, plans and initiatives.

Maintains and writes detailed clean up procedures and SSOPs for all plant equipment and areas.

Audit clean up (monthly and product changeovers).

Each SSOPs requires identification of equipment to be cleaned, phasing of cleaning, and number of individuals required to clean, etc.), validation and verification of the effectiveness and efficacy of the procedure.

Inspect plants, warehouses, buildings and surrounding areas to ensure compliance with internal sanitation and safety procedures and programs and to comply with state and federal laws.

Oversees all sanitation training programs, plans and initiatives to ensure they are understood and completed by sanitation personnel and production operators in a safe and efficient manner.

Assure compliance to all federally & state mandated and local regulations by the production facility to assure food safety for consumers.

Develops, analyzes and maintains master cleaning schedule for plant meeting cGMP and Kerry guidelines as well as managing one sanitation crew of up to 6-9 hourly employees daily.

Assists in internal monthly plant inspection processes as well as in internal food safety & quality audits.

Take the lead, with the approval of her/his supervisor, to support key initiatives in the areas of food safety and sanitation ensuring the Clark – Kerry facility operations and written records meet all legal, compliance and practical requirements.

Qualifications and skills

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Science in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science &Technology, Engineering or related area is required

3 years of supervisory experience in a food-manufacturing environment.

5-8 years of sanitation and/or quality related experience in dried, powdered and liquid food ingredients facilities.

Certified by AIB (American Institute of Baking) in the area of plant sanitation for food processing or equivalent certification. Knowledge and experience with pest control processes.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Understand MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet), product specifications and product labeling for chemicals used in performing cleaning and sanitation tasks.

Clear understanding of basic statistics to be able to analyze and evaluate, in detail, sanitation processes from start to finish in order to identify areas of opportunities (cost savings, waste reduction, decrease risks, increase productivity, etc.) and generate trends and solutions based on data.

Create and monitor metrics and results to ensure that the sanitation processes are controlled and perform to requirements.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Ability to work with all units of measurement (physics and chemistry). Experience in SAP is highly desirable.  OTHER SKILLS,

EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE:

Food Safety, HAACP, HARPC knowledge is required. Proven ability to create, implement and lead sanitation initiatives in a food manufacturing environment.

Proven leadership abilities in a manufacturing environment is required.

Possess superior analytical and problem-solving skills.

Successfully able to establish priorities and clarify expectations with internal and external customers in verbal and written form.

Ability to successfully support a team, foster teamwork, sharing of responsibilities taking initiative and open communication.

Ability to lead and facilitate projects from start to finish.
