About the role

We’re currently looking to recruit an Engineering Manager to join our Taste & Nutrition team in Cam, Gloucestershire!

This key position provides leadership and direction to the Engineering department. The Engineering Manager is responsible for the Engineering budget spend decisions, site capital planning, capital project identification, process optimisation, energy management and maintenance delivery on site.  They are also responsible for ensuring all local, national and regional or KERRY EMEA compliance requirements are always met and maintained. 

Key responsibilities

  • Develop a vision and lead the transition to a world class site engineering function that supports the goals of the overall business. You will be passionate about people and processes, and work alongside the site teams to develop them into working by Kerry Production Systems.
  • Align & lead the site Engineering team to ensure they are engaged and high performing.  Build trust through the skilled application of people management processes and open 2 way communication. This will mean focusing on Recruiting the best talent, inducting your new members, building skillset through training feedback and support. Ensure that there is an adequate hierarchal succession map and associated personal development plans across the site Engineering team, whilst managing on going performance. Managing grievance and disciplinary issues as required with the support of HR.
  • Responsible for ensuring Kerry QSHE policies & standards are implemented and adhered to on site by the engineering department and any external services / contractors utilised by engineering.
  • Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety.  Ensures all engineering and maintenance activities on site and meeting the appropriate health and safety standards
  • Responsible for development, implementation, maintenance and adherence to local, national, regional engineering statuary and/or compliance requirements including the adherence to Kerry procedures, regional and/or global standards. Ensures that equipment and processes are operated to and maintained within their safe design operating limits in a way that avoids danger to personnel, the public or Kerry property.
  • Use the direction of Kerry Asset Management Systems to develop the engineering processes on site in terms of moving from reactive to planned Maintenance, Asset Management, Development of appropriate metrics KPIs to reflect the effectiveness of engineering, Materials management, Planning and Scheduling, Continuous Improvement, ICT Systems, Effective management of site utilities and services, Contracts and energy Management


  • Accountable for ensuring that an effective & comprehensive preventative maintenance programme is in place & executed on time & on budget. This is in the form of a documented scheme which is managed through Kerry systems. Identifies & assess the criticality of plant, equipment & systems and adjusts engineering strategy to ensure efficient operation & reduced process downtime.
  • In conjunction with the Plant Manager and Site SLT you will help develop site maintenance budget & manage costs to meet targets. Define Manufacturing Capital Budget and projects.
  • Through analysis of Site Performance Data, identify performance gaps, trends and improvement opportunities. Communicate internally using visual management standards and effective employment to line level as well as externally to technology management team.
  • Manage Health Safety and Environment, conduct risk assessment on processes and tasks in the Engineering, apply all required permits to work (including contractor control),Ensure relevant legal & regulatory requirements are adhered to with reference to hazardous materials, Proactively ensure all team members have a positive approach to H&S.
  • Identifies spare parts holding policy for the site.
  • Ensure that the engineering function supports and drives the site ‘Path to True Lean’ by demonstrating the behavioural requirements that are required to support the Kerry Production System (KPS).

Qualifications and skills

  • Relevant Engineering Qualification, Manufacturing / Engineering related background.
  • Spray drying & wet process system knowledge
  • Food related automation & process control technology.
  • Boilers & Steam systems, Compressed Air, Wastewater Treatment
  • Relevant experience within a fast paced 24/7 manufacturing environment
  • Strong leadership, communication & interpersonal skills
  • Numerical ability to record, interpret and analyse key process data
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office tools
  • Good understanding of Asset Management
  • Proven problem solving and continuous improvement skills
  • Specific knowledge of engineering regulatory requirement
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to be successful in a changing environment
  • Effective communicator who facilitates bottom up and top down communication channels
  • Facilitates team development by providing structure, training, challenge, coaching and support to all team members.
  • Track record of contributing in cross functional teams to deliver business objectives.
  • Proven capability to operate at a strategic level, possessing the in-depth skill to promote and manage short, medium- and long-term strategic objectives.
