About the role

The primary purpose of Shift Electrician is to ensure all work undertaken during maintenance activities performed adhere to the appropriate Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards and where necessary will assist others and/or report safety breaches.

Key responsibilities
  • Responsible for ensuring an up to date knowledge of Kerry policies, regional and local legislative requirements
  • Participate in process and equipment risk assessments and HACCP studies as necessary
  • Lead or assist in the troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance of the electro-mechanical food manufacturing equipment or processes containing pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, PLC and/or Scada-control systems
  • Lead or assist in the troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance of facilities plant and services including but not limited to compressed air, refrigeration and steam
  • Observe and take initiatives when a fault is detected and to take decisive action to effect immediate repair or seek further assistance or support
  • Participate in cross functional teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive cost saving
  • Provide recommendations for improvement to the maintenance plans and/or equipment to eliminate downtime and waste, improving overall plant efficiency
  • Work with equipment suppliers or contractors on new equipment and installations and modifications
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to other engineers and/or apprentices
  • Update the Maintenance Management System (MEX), record all works performed, stores transactions made, and all changes/modifications made to equipment/systems
  • Support planner/scheduler in specifying job plans for efficient execution
  • Maintain and report updates and changes to process control and/or documentation including drawings, programs, I/O lists, and databases
  • Participate in process and equipment risk assessments in order to optimize engineering design, hygienic design, personnel safety, environmental and quality compliance
Qualifications and skills
  • Minimum Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of Electrical or relevant work experience, preferably with some experience in maintenance of food processing machinery
  • Able to execute and monitor daily preventive and corrective maintenance work
  • Strong diagnostic / trouble-shooting experience gained in a Hi-volume manufacturing or process environment
  • Strong knowledge & experience of manufacturing electro/mechanical automated equipment & processes including pneumatic, hydraulic and instrumentation-controlled systems.
  • Good technical skill with appropriate standard of technical, legal and professional knowledge as defined by competencies
  • Exhibit good, supervisory and safety behaviours and will specifically ensure that all aspects of operations and maintenance are carried out safely, through careful delegation and control responsibilities
  • Communicate and liaise closely with other department heads, on repair and maintenance needs or requests
  • Experience in CMMS, MEX will be an added advantage
  • Familiar with industrial instrumentation, Visual Basic, PLC Programming, automated systems, SCADA server/client system
  • Candidate with Allen Bradley PLC troubleshooting knowledge is an added advantage
  • Dynamic, result-oriented and able to work under pressure
  • Should be comfortable working in a fast changing and growing global environment where accountability, quality, timeliness is key component
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
