About the role
Kerry is the leader in Dairy Flavors, and the RD&A Dairy Flavors team has an exciting opportunity for a Flavors Scientist position. Under the mentorship and guidance of a Principal Scientist, this position will play a key role in top-note flavor creation and will support flavor scale-up and production. The Dairy Flavors Scientist will develop Dairy flavors and interact with customers, other flavorists, sensory scientists, production, and suppliers to ensure that goals are met and that briefs are completed in a timely manner.
Key responsibilities
- Create and match Dairy flavors by compounding natural flavor chemicals.
- Determine flavor needs through sensory evaluation and analysis
- Utilize existing flavors to deliver desired flavor profiles into applications
- Support team initiatives
- Effectively manage time and projects
- Work independently, and also work well with others in a team setting
- Utilize bench top and pilot plant equipment to development and transition flavors from development to production (Blending, Wet Processing, Spray Drying, Culturing, Enzyme utilization)
- Understand and utilize knowledge of Regulatory requirements to support key projects
- Collaborate with Regulatory and Commercial teams to convert developed materials into commercial items with included processing parameters, instructions, and documentation
- Execute on project briefs, and provide project summaries and technical updates.
- Travel to production sites to support projects
- Interact with sales and engage with customers and technical staff to support project initiatives.
Qualifications and skills
The position of Scientist requires a bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Nutrition, Engineering, or a related field and 0-5 years of experience
- Familiarity with Dairy and have the ability to discriminate flavor profiles within dairy food and flavor items.
- Capacity and potential to become a Flavorist with an emphasis in Dairy.
- Ability and desire to learn flavor chemicals, regulatory requirements, flavor compounding, and flavor development methods (compounding (oil soluble, water soluble, emulsion), blending, spray drying, reaction and enzymolysis).
- Ability to follow instructions and support team members.
- Ability to understand and interpret analytical and sensory evaluation reports
