This role will be based out of our Beloit, WI location.

What you'll do:

The Sr. R&D Manager, Preservation Central collaborates with Business Development, Operations, Regulatory, Finance, Sales and other RD&A experts to develop roadmap for Preservation central, new product development and systems strategy and implementation plans to meet Food Protection Innovation Strategy. S/he will be responsible for hiring, training and maintaining the most proficient Preservation Central teams of 10-20 FTE in R&D in NAM region with further responsibilities of global regions. S/he will be the subject matter expert in food microbiology, preservation, new product development from lab to commercial scale. S/he will have experience in implementing strategic plans into tactical plans with resource mapping to enable key business strategic targets. S/he will be responsible for developing and executing food protection RDA and preservation team competency development roadmap, plans and framework for converting innovation and sales pipeline into delivery per the strategy. S/he will be responsible for working with regional business development, EUM sales to drive project delivery by working with key account teams. S/he will be the lead in managing the external collaborations for new products, technology, research centers to drive innovation delivery and keep our innovation program as leading program on global level. S/he will benchmark the team performance and progressions against industry standards including project delivery, competency, capability, staff training, budget, Profit improvement program, and external collaboration. S/he will collaborate with different internal teams to manage complex project delivery and unlock the value by synergizing the ways of working. The candidate will lead and participate on proactive and reactive Food Protection key innovation projects, coordinate product introductions, technical sales training & customer presentations, lead and participate on innovative interdepartmental and global teams. S/he will also keep current with the state of the art by creating a state of the art ecosystem of internal, external experts, within industry, supplier, academia and participation in relevant conferences or online forums; universities, center of excellence, industry experts and external contractors. Lead, develop and own the strategic roadmap for preservation central for driving existing portfolio value proposition as well as innovation strategy with various teams and has global scope and responsibility for growing Food protection business. S/he will be responsible for hiring, training and maintaining the most proficient preservation central and application team collaboration with differentiated competency. S/he will be responsible for leading the team towards building, maintaining, and delivering a robust and effective Innovation Pipeline as well as Customer support according to the business needs. Key responsibility for Preservation central platform program progression and new product delivery and owns the patent strategy. Key responsible for Predictive modeling platform development (internal and external). Key Preservation resource for internal and external business stakeholders. Key responsible lead for securing right lab, pilot facility designs and maintaining state of the art predictive platform for innovation strategy implementation. Responsible for technical capability roadmap with budget proposals and execution of budgeted targets. Responsible for working closely and enabling capability enhancement of Preservation central team in Beloit. Build strong working relations with R&D leaders in Kerry Taste and Nutrition food science teams. Responsible for establishing Kerry’s thought leadership at both internal and external platforms.

What you'll need to be successful:


Education and Experience

M.S./PhD in Food Science, Food Engineering, Biosystems engineering, or Biochemistry with food industry experience. 15-20 years of experience in food industry with preservation field, application team leadership and leading global teams.

Global experience developing and leading high performing Preservation central teams.

B-2-B Ingredient R&D and business development experience in preservation business

Highly published profile demonstrated through patents, publications, speakership


Strong background in food engineering, food chemistry, food processing, sensory, microbiology, food packaging systems.

Highly competent in new product introductions, sales pipeline conversion development, value proposition, sales training

Experience with implementing innovation strategy to meet business strategy targets.

Experience and working knowledge with food pilot or production equipment (i.e. fermentation, spray drying, freeze drying, centrifugation, filtration, pelletizing, evaporation, pasteurization and sterilization).

Knowledge of statistical design of experiments, Quality by design, Spray drying.

Understand the impact of product preparation, product variability, product packaging and storage conditions upon the scale up of food product.  Understand formulation and ingredient changes to the operational design in processing environment.

Ability to use predictive design principles to develop accelerated platforms for fast-tracked product implementation

Able to set and adjust priorities in a highly dynamic environment, simultaneously manage projects, and drive projects to completion on schedule on a global level.

Ability to manage diverse stakeholders and get alignment and priority for food protection projects

Strives for high standards, seeks innovative solutions, drives continuous improvement of products and processes and demonstrates a high degree of intellectual curiosity.

Travel Requirements  10-30%
