Our Beloit, WI location is home to our Corporate Headquarters for the North American Region. This location has approximately 700 employees at this location that in roles such as regulatory, RD&A, finance, procurement, supply chain and customer care. It is easily commutable from the Rockford, Madison, and Milwaukee areas. What you'll do:


The Global Research and Development (R&D) Director for ProActive Health will lead Kerry’s world class technical team in development and launch of scientifically backed health promoting ingredients. A solution for people’s most valued health needs, Kerry’s ProActive Health portfolio is a collection of branded ingredients that deliver clinically validated benefits, inspiring lasting health to make a lasting difference. Through the ProActive Health portfolio, we are helping create a world of sustainable nutrition, working with our customers to better the quality of life for people around the globe. Working in partnership with the executive team they will develop and implement global strategic initiatives to advance our growth ambitions in multiple end use markets and across key regions. The successful candidate will execute the technical strategy by developing a robust innovation pipeline in addition to partnering with expert internal & external stakeholders to deliver key growth initiatives. The candidate will leverage the full breadth of Kerry’s nutritional platform to create market differentiating solutions that are synergistic with Kerry’s ProActive Health science-backed ingredient portfolio. The incumbent will work in partnership with business development, sales, marketing, operations, quality, and finance to ensure internal and external customer expectations are met while maintaining compliance with relevant regulatory requirements. This critically strategic role will have high visibility and frequent interactions with senior leadership within Kerry. The position has a global remit with a flexible location within one of Kerry’s global research centers (preferred: Beloit, WI/Naas, Ireland/Italy/Grenada).

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead a team of technical personnel to advance Kerry’s ProActive Health R,D&A strategy. Develop & implement a research program for clinically backed ingredients encompassing botanical extracts, bioactives, probiotics, omega-3s, collagen and more for multiple markets including but not limited to food, beverage and supplement applications. Have a strong understanding of the strategy and capabilities of leading competitors in the key technology areas to understand how the proactive health team should design competitive or alternative technologies to win in the market. Drive an evolution and differentiation of our portfolio through an internal and external technology innovation program. Identify and create new venture opportunities, establish business relationships with subject matter experts and negotiate research contracts. Participate and support the design and execution of clinical trials. Meet and exceed technical targets and key performance indicators. Develop and manage detailed budgets in accordance with business targets. Build strong customer relationships delivering customer-centric solutions. Partner with marketing, sales, operations, and finance to ensure R&D objectives are aligned with business requirements and evolving market conditions. Build relations with the broader Kerry R&D teams developing integrated solutions that incorporate functional ingredients into value added systems. Maintain awareness of the current and evolving technical landscape and regulations communicating potential impacts & opportunities to leadership. Select, develop, motivate and empower staff to effectively fulfil their duties. Integrate R&D functions from new merger and acquisitions (M&A) and synergy realization is a key priority while also overseeing M&A due diligence activities.

What you'll need to be successful:

 

A minimum of fifteen years’ experience in product development with strong experience managing technical individuals. Technical depth in the area of probiotics or bioactive ingredients is imperative. Extensive knowledge in nutrition, microbiology, immunology and product innovation is required. Experience developing and commercializing probiotics and bioactive ingredients with a history of generating science backed research. Familiarity with the dietary supplement and nutraceutical markets and relevant regulations is desired.

Education:

A MS or PhD in Nutrition, Biochemistry, Microbiology or another related technical field in addition to 15+ years’ experience (education & work combined) as a functional leader for a global food business or related industry.
