About the role

Global Microbiologists role is advise and coordinate best practices associated with risk assessments of microbiological hazards with regard to incoming raw materials, recipe formulation, manufacturing  practices and processes.  The scope covers leadership and consultation on environmental monitoring  programs across our manufacturing footprint.

Assist in calibrating our external Microbiological Laboratories partners and  Kerry  internal  laboratories to ensure adherence to internationally recognized methods and ISO/ IEC 17025 principles on testing carried out by our Global Microbiological Laboratory partners. Responsible for delivery of the food safety programs and to standardize all structures, work, training, procedures & records.
 

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible communicates to regional food safety directors and sanitation leads  on microbiological initiatives as directed by the Global Food Safety VP.  
  • Provide support to regional teams and  Kerry sites in managing food safety related incidents (food safety compliant and microbial issue) and troubleshooting.
  • Responsible in managing quality performance and proficiency of the Kerry used third party laboratories by provide technical assessment to third party laboratories.
  • Provide support to RD&A and regional food Safety directors on new product scale up associate to microbiological practical in specification set up, process capability, sampling plan, test methodology and in relates.
  • Assist the global Food Safety VP in continually evaluate and trending the environmental controls, cleaning & sanitation performance, micro related food safety programs and recommend appropriate improvements.
  • Key Member of the Global Crisis Team.
  • Responsible in ensure documentation across the regions Microbiological Laboratories are accurate and updated to current practices.
  • Provide support to Regional VPs and teams  in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, corrective actions and verification.
  • Responsible to support the regional  sanitation leads to continually improve to Kerry Global EMP programs and performance.
  • Responsible in continue improvement on the accuracy and precision of testing methods used by our external vendors.
  • Conduct periodic audits of our Laboratory vendors globally to a frequency to be confirmed.
  • Support sites to identify and resolve food safety issue and quality issue in microbial related as directed globally by Food Safety VP.

Training:

  • To lead and implement training programs on Microbiological hazards  to highlight areas for improvement.
  • To act as a facilitator for the education of all team members, to provide them the opportunity to continually improve the standards set.

Continuous Improvement:

  • To participate in continuous improvement activities as necessary.
  • Responsible for product, process and system on food safety improvement.
  • Liaise with others departmental personnel on specifications, validation and verification, complaints, food safety problems etc in addressing corrective/preventive action for continuous improvement.
  • To assist in monitoring customer requirement and standards.
  • Develop & implement processes elated to document control & management
  • Maintain proper organization & storage of documents & information

Qualifications and skills

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Science based subject eg Biology, Chemistry , Microbiology or equivalent
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in a Senior Microbiologist role.
  • Exemplary leadership qualities and able to make difficult decisions.
  • A team player with high commitment and able to perform under pressure.

Business & Leadership

  • Serves internal and external customers with accurate and timely information.
  • Understand Quality processes in manufacturing facilities
  • Help with development of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Commitment to additional training
  • Good customer relations skills

Regulatory

  • Working knowledge International food laws
  • Understanding of product certification programs such as Kosher, Halal, and Organic
  • Understanding of policies related to international products
  • Knowledge of FSSC 22K, HACCP and AIB product safety system
  • Allergen awareness
  • Extensive Knowledge of FSMA and FDA and experience interacting with regulatory agencies
  • Extensive Knowledge Haccp, Vaccp and Taccp
  • Previous history in leading the execution of  compliance systems.

Process Quality

  • Understands best practice in Microbiological Laboratories
  • Working knowledge of statistics
  • Full knowledge of assigned plant operating systems
  • Knowledgeable about supply chain management
