About the role


We are currently recruiting for an experienced Project Engineer to join the Engineering Team at our Coleraine site which sits on the banks of the River Bann and has four plants located within it's grounds.    Kerry Coleraine has a long history of producing high quality dairy products since the 1940s, today the site supply’s a range of cheese slices to both the food service industry and to all major UK and Ireland supermarkets.  Along with these traditional business avenues there is also a child’s yogurt plant and a newly commissioned appetiser plant which is a part of the continued innovation and development which Kerry is famous for.
 

There are around 250 team members within the site and we're proud of the 'teamwork' ethos which is has been key to the success of all the plants within the Coleraine site.


This role will lead  various projects ranging in scope from plant process improvements, new product launches, EHS improvements, through to the execution of capital projects.  In particular we have a large automation project and a powder system project which both require significant resource and time to progress. 
 

You will collaborate with the Engineering, Production and QHSE teams as well as Contractors, SME’s and central functions to ensure projects are delivered to specification, on time and within budget and with safety built-in as standard.  This is a permanent, full-time position.

What will I be doing?


As a Project Engineer you will:
 

  • Create capital proposals including scope documents, cost estimates, and timelines.
  • Development of a detailed scope of work, equipment specifications, purchasing documents, creating and maintaining detailed timelines, receiving and commissioning plant/equipment.
  • Develop project specifications by making calculations, preparing process flow diagrams (PFD’s), piping and instrumentation drawings (P&ID’s), site and floor plans, elevation drawings and other project documentation as applicable.
  • Leads the bid process and selection of contractors/vendors in actual design and specifications of installations.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for new or existing systems.
  • Establish a project plan including considerations around timeline, plant tie-ins, project team requirements etc.
  • Communicate clearly, both written and verbally, with contractors, plant personnel, peers and management.
  • Manages and coordinates the activities of teams and contractors to ensure successful project execution.
  • Directs the installation, commissioning, qualification and verification for regional engineering capital projects.
  • Responsible for the effective management of change for all processes & equipment under your remit.
  • Recommends improvements in the area of operational safety for a project.

What qualifications, skills and experience do I need to have?


In Kerry we understand that people have very different career trajectories and experiences. In order to be successful in this role we would be looking for the right competencies and aptitudes as well as your experience in a Project Engineering role.


Our ideal candidate will bring:
 

  • Degree in either Engineering, Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering or related subject    
  • Mid-level experience in a similar position within manufacturing environment.  Food manufacturing experience is highly desirable.  
  • Strong Knowledge of Project Management & Process Improvement best practice tools and techniques.  Experience of Process Automation projects in highly desirable.
  • Experience with justifying, implementing capital projects ranging from £5k-£1M.
  • Excellent design & problem-solving skills, understanding of root cause analysis.
  • Proven track record building solid working relationships and managing stakeholders.
  • Strong computer skills in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
  • Proficient in CAD or able to interpret CAD drawings, for electrical, mechanical and facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Health, safety and environmental regulation.  Food safety experience is highly desirable.
  • Contract, budget management & costing model experience.
  • LEAN manufacturing or Six Sigma training would be beneficial.
